Dua e Hajat is the dua read after the prayer of need (Salat al-Hajah). Many people search for it. This page gives its Arabic with Roman, Urdu and English, and tells you plainly how the scholars of hadith graded the report it comes from.
It also gives duas for need whose sources are sound: duas from the Qur’an and from Sahih al-Bukhari and other books. The Arabic of each was compared across independent editions, letter by letter and vowel by vowel.

The dua after the prayer of need
Prophetic: Taught by the Prophet ﷺ, with the hadith reference.
La ilaha illallahul Halimul Karim
There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous.
Subhanallahi Rabbil ‘arshil ‘Azim
Glory be to Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne.
Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil ‘alamin
All praise is for Allah, Lord of the worlds.
As’aluka mujibati rahmatika wa ‘aza’ima maghfiratik
I ask You for what makes Your mercy certain and for the firm means of Your forgiveness,
wal ghanimata min kulli birrin was salamata min kulli ithm
a share of every good deed and safety from every sin.
La tada‘ li dhanban illa ghafartah
Leave no sin of mine but forgive it,
wa la hamman illa farrajtah
no worry but relieve it,
and no need of mine that pleases You but fulfil it,
ya arhamar rahimin
O Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
What scholars say about the prayer of need
The report is in Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi (479) and Sunan Ibn Majah (1384). Al-Albani and Ahmad Shakir graded it very weak, and Bashar ‘Awwad Ma‘ruf and Zubair Ali Zai graded it weak.
Scholars have then differed on the prayer. Islamweb quotes the Kuwaiti Encyclopedia of Fiqh as saying the jurists agreed that the prayer of need is recommended and that they differed on its form. Shaykh Ibn Baz said that he knew of no sound hadith about a prayer of that name, and that what is established is the prayer of Istikhara and the prayer of repentance.
You can follow the view of your own school. Either way, the duas below are sound and can be used by anyone in need.
Sound duas for need
Musa’s dua of need (28:24)
Quranic: The words of Allah.
Fasaqaa lahumaa summa tawallaaa ilaz zilli faqaala Rabbi innee limaaa anzalta ilaiya min khairin faqeer
So he watered [their flocks] for them; then he went back to the shade and said, "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need."
“Our Lord, give us good in this world” (2:201)
Quranic: The words of Allah.
Wa minhum mai yaqoolu rabbanaaa aatina fid dunyaa hasanatawn wa fil aakhirati hasanatanw wa qinaa azaaban Naar
But among them is he who says, "Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire."
Allahumma rahmataka arju
Prophetic: Taught by the Prophet ﷺ, with the hadith reference.
Allahumma rahmataka arju
O Allah, it is Your mercy that I hope for.
fala takilni ila nafsi tarfata ‘ayn
Do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye,
wa aslih li sha’ni kullah
and set right all my affairs.
la ilaha illa ant
There is no god but You.
Questions about dua e hajat
What is Dua e Hajat?
It is the dua said after the two rak‘ahs of the prayer of need. It begins “La ilaha illallahul Halimul Karim”. It is on this page in Arabic with Roman, Urdu and English.
Is the hadith of Salat al-Hajah authentic?
No. The report in at-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah was graded very weak by al-Albani and Ahmad Shakir, and weak by Bashar ‘Awwad Ma‘ruf and Zubair Ali Zai. Al-Tirmidhi himself said its isnad has a criticism.
Is there a dua e hajat in the Qur’an?
Yes, duas for need appear in the Qur’an, such as Musa’s “Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqir” (28:24) and “Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan” (2:201). Both are on this page.
How do I pray Salat al-Hajah?
The report says: make wudu well, pray two rak‘ahs, praise Allah, send blessings on the Prophet ﷺ, say the dua above, and then ask Allah for what you need. Scholars differ on whether this prayer is established, so follow your own school.
What is the difference between Istikhara and Hajat?
Istikhara is for asking Allah to guide you to the best choice when you must decide, and its hadith is sound. Hajat is for asking Allah to meet a need.
