Darood Ibrahimi, also called Durood Ibrahim or Salat Ibrahimiyyah, is the Salawat the Prophet ﷺ taught his Companions when they asked him how to send blessings upon him. It is the darood recited in the final sitting of every prayer.
The Arabic below is the wording in Sahih al-Bukhari 3370. Each line has its Roman, Urdu and English beside it, and the Arabic has been compared with other digital editions letter by letter and vowel by vowel (see the sources box).

Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala ali Muhammad
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad,
as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Truly, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.

O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad,

as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Truly, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
The meaning of Darood Ibrahimi
The first half asks Allah to send salat upon Muhammad ﷺ and upon the family of Muhammad, “as You sent salat upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim”. The second half asks for barakah, blessing, in the same way. Both halves end by praising Allah as Hamid (the Praiseworthy) and Majid (the Glorious).
Scholars explain salat from Allah as His mercy and His praise of the Prophet ﷺ, and salat from people as asking Allah to give him that. “Al” (family) is used here for the family of the Prophet ﷺ; scholars have also discussed whether it includes his followers.
Where Darood Ibrahimi comes from
Ka‘b ibn ‘Ujrah reported that the Companions said: “O Messenger of Allah, we know how to greet you with salam, so how do we send salat upon you?” The Prophet ﷺ taught them these words. The hadith is in Sahih al-Bukhari (3370 and others) and Sahih Muslim.
The same hadith is narrated in slightly different wordings. In Sahih al-Bukhari 3370, the wording printed on this page, both halves say “‘ala Ibrahima wa ‘ala ali Ibrahim”. Another narration from Ka‘b ibn ‘Ujrah says only “‘ala ali Ibrahim” in both places (HadeethEnc no. 5377). Both are recorded.
Darood Ibrahimi in the prayer
Darood Ibrahimi is recited in the final sitting of the prayer, after the tashahhud and before the salam. Hisn al-Muslim lists it there.
Scholars differ on whether reciting it in the final sitting is required or recommended. Follow your own school, and ask a scholar you trust if you are unsure.
