Darood Tanjeena, also called Salat at-Tanjeena or Salat al-Munjiyah, is a short Salawat on the Prophet ﷺ that asks Allah for deliverance from calamities and for the fulfilment of needs. It is widely read in Pakistan, India and across the Muslim world.
It is not a hadith text and it is not in the Qur’an. It is a composed Salawat, recorded by scholars centuries ago. This page gives the Arabic with Roman, Urdu and English, says where it is recorded, and sets out what scholars say about reading it.

Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin salatan tunjina biha min jami‘il ahwali wal afat
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, a blessing by which You save us from all terrors and calamities,
wa taqdi lana biha jami‘al hajat
and by which You fulfil all our needs,
wa tutahhiruna biha min jami‘is sayyi’at
and by which You purify us of all sins,
wa tarfa‘una biha ‘indaka a‘lad darajat
and by which You raise us in Your sight to the highest ranks,
wa tuballighuna biha aqsal ghayat
and by which You bring us to the furthest ends
of all good things, in life and after death.
- Many printed booklets say “‘ala sayyidina Muhammad”. The classical wording of al-Sakhawi has no “sayyidina”, and the page follows it.
Where Darood Tanjeena comes from
Al-Sakhawi records it in al-Qawl al-Badi‘, quoting al-Fakihani’s al-Fajr al-Munir (died 734 AH). The story is about the righteous Shaykh Musa ad-Darir, who was at sea when a storm called al-Aqlabiyyah struck, which few survived. He fell asleep and saw the Prophet ﷺ in a dream, who told him to tell the people on the ship to recite this Salawat. They recited it about three hundred times, and Allah removed the storm.
Al-Sakhawi adds a saying of al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali al-Aswani that whoever recites it a thousand times in any difficulty, Allah relieves him and he reaches what he hopes for. This is the source of the traditional count. It is a saying of a scholar, not of the Prophet ﷺ.
What scholars say about reading it
Scholars agree that it is not narrated from the Prophet ﷺ. They differ on whether to read it.
Jamia Banuri Town (Karachi) says its words are correct, that nothing in it is contrary to the Shariah, that it is among the experiences of the pious (mujarrabat), and that it can be read; it is not correct to call it a bid‘ah. It also says it cannot be attributed to the Prophet ﷺ and that the Darood Ibrahimi, taught in the hadith, is the most excellent.
IslamQA says the wording was not narrated in the Sunnah, that dreams cannot be used as evidence for an act of worship, and that a Muslim should keep to the duas and Salawat that are proven.
Whichever view you follow, nothing here replaces the Darood Ibrahimi, which is the one the Prophet ﷺ taught and the one read in the prayer.
Questions about darood tanjeena
What is Darood Tanjeena?
It is a short Salawat on the Prophet ﷺ that asks Allah to save us from calamities, fulfil our needs, purify us of sins, raise our ranks and bring us to what is good, in life and after death. It is also called Salat at-Tanjeena or Salat al-Munjiyah.
Is Darood Tanjeena from a hadith?
No. It is not narrated from the Prophet ﷺ. Al-Sakhawi records it from al-Fakihani’s al-Fajr al-Munir with the story of Shaykh Musa ad-Darir.
In which para of the Quran is Darood Tanjeena?
It is not in the Qur’an, so it is in no para. It is a Salawat composed by scholars and recorded in books such as al-Qawl al-Badi‘ of al-Sakhawi.
Is it permissible to read Darood Tanjeena?
Scholars differ. Jamia Banuri Town says its words are correct and it can be read, but it cannot be attributed to the Prophet ﷺ. IslamQA says to keep to the proven Salawat and duas. Ask a scholar you trust.
How many times should Darood Tanjeena be read?
No number comes from the Prophet ﷺ. The story says the people on the ship recited it about three hundred times, and al-Hasan al-Aswani is quoted as saying a thousand times in a difficulty. Both are traditional reports, not rulings.

The scholars who record it describe it as a means of relief from hardship, drawing on the story of the storm. No result is guaranteed. Reading Salawat on the Prophet ﷺ is itself rewarded, as Sahih Muslim 408 says.
